If you're thinking, “It's only June, I’ve got time,” here's a quick reality check:
Fall internships are already up, and some are filling fast.
A lot of companies open fall roles in May or early June, and they start interviewing now. By the time August rolls around, the best spots are gone.
So if you’re hoping to get experience this fall, here’s what to do this week:
1. Start Searching Now
Look at companies you’re interested in and check their careers page.
Also try:
LinkedIn jobs
Handshake (for students)
WayUp or Chegg Internships
Local startups that might not even list publicly
Not everything shows up in one place, so put a little time into the search.
2. Reach Out to People
Seriously. If there’s a company you like and they don’t have a fall role posted, message someone who works there. Just a quick, polite note like: Hey, I’m a student interested in a fall internship in [your field]. Noticed your company and loved what you’re doing. Do you know if you’ll be hiring interns? Happy to send over my info if it’s helpful.
You don’t have to be pushy. Just showing interest goes a long way.
3. Clean Up Your Resume and LinkedIn
Make sure your resume says what you’re looking for.
Remove old info that doesn’t help your story.
If your LinkedIn headline still says “seeking summer 2025 internship,” update it to fall.
A lot of hiring managers will only spend 10 seconds skimming your stuff. Make it easy for them to see where you’d fit.
4. Be Ready for August Start Dates
Most fall internships start in late August or early September.
That means interviews are happening in June and July.
So if you wait too long, you might miss the whole window.
